CPPCC Chairman Meets Lee Kuan YewLi Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met Sunday with Singaporean Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew.Lee arrived in Beijing earlier Sunday for a working visit to China and the Conference 2000 -- 21st Century Forum sponsored by the CPPCC National Committee. Li, also honorary chairman of the organizing committee of the conference, extended a welcome to Lee and said that economic globalization has become a major trend. There are many views on what consequences and impact the economic globalization will have and he added that China needs to deal with globalization in an energetic and active manner. The main theme of the conference is " economic globalization -- Asia and China". Calling Lee a man of insight, Li said that he is looking forward to listening to Lee's speech at the coming conference. Li said "development" is a main theme in China. Promoting economic growth is a central task facing the Chinese people. If we are to describe the numerous issues facing China today, they may be encapsulated in one word -- "development". The key to these issues is to accelerate China's development. And this will not change, he stressed. Lee said it is difficult to predict what the world will look like in 30 or 40 years from now, as science and technology is developing rapidly. Economic globalization is really a challenge for all countries. He believes that rapid development of science and technology and the use of the Internet will make it easier for China to access information and engage in numerous economic and technological exchanges with other countries.
