China to Promote Photoelectron Industry

The Changchun Photoelectronic Industrial Park, the first of its kind in China, was established on June 9 in the Changchun High and New Technology Development Zone.

The park will attract home and overseas photoelectrons producers to establish factories or branches. The products are expected to cover laser and applied products, photoelectron medical apparatus, photoelectron testing apparatus and optical instruments, according to local sources.

At the first phase, four development and research centers and three enterprises will enter the park, which will cost 450 million yuan (54 million U.S. dollars). The annual output of the park is projected at 1.44 billion yuan (170 million U.S. dollars) at the initial stage.

Changchun in northeast China, known as the country's automobile city, is also the cradle of photoelectrons in China. The Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics and Physics under the

Chinese Academy of Sciences is China's earliest and biggest base for research and development in photoelectrons.
