CPPCC Chairman Meets Swiss Visitor
In a meeting with Flavio Cotti June 9 afternoon, Li recalled that during his visit to Switzerland in 1996, he held frank discussions with Cotti on the issues of Tibet and human rights, and both sides had different views on the matters; however, the discussion helped the two sides reach agreement on quite a few points. This demonstrated that it is natural that different countries hold contradictory views on some issues due to their different historical background, social systems, values, economic development and insufficient exchanges, Li said. But by treating each other kindly and sincerely, they can help to narrow the gap and enhance mutual understanding, he noted. He also expressed his satisfaction with the smooth advancement of Sino-Swiss ties since the two countries forged diplomatic relations half a century ago. China would like to push forward the bilateral ties in accordance with the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, he said. | |
