China Tops Women's Pacific Cup

China topped the Pacific Cup women's soccer standings Saturday by defeading winless New Zealand 6-0 in the teams' final matches in the six-team tournament in Newcastle, Australia.

The win gave China the tournament lead on goal difference but it now must rely on the United States to either lose or draw to Australia in the last game of the round-robin tournament Sunday, reports said.

In the first game Saturday, Canada trouanced Japan 5-1. China is on 12 points with Canada and three ahead of the United States, but if the Americans beat Australia, they will win the tournament easily on a better goal differential.
