Cellular Phone Developers Optimistic About WAP Products

Mobile telecom companies such as Motorola, Nokia, Siemens, and Ericsson will continue to promote WAP cellular phones in China.

Specialists said despite promotional campaigns, WAP (wireless application protocol) cellular phones have not been selling well on the Chinese market.

However, WAP mobile phone developers said that on-line information and stock dealing will attract more Chinese customers. Siemens (Shanghai) Co. recently displayed its latest HSCSD ( high-speed circuit switched data) mobile phones in Beijing.

Experts with Siemens (Shanghai) Co. said that Siemens is also developing UMTS (universal mobile telecommunication system) cellular phones with Lucent Technologies.

All mobile phone developers are planning to combine mobile telecommunication service with the multimedia.

Dotcom companies in China including Sohu.com and Sina.com have also launched WAP websites since March 28.

Statistics from the Ministry of Information Industry showed that mobile telecom businesses already surpassed conventional phones in the first quarter of the year.
