Beijing to Build Three Ecological Screens Within Five YearsIt's learned from the Beijing Forestry Bureau that Beijing is aiming to complete 200,000 mu (1 hectare = 15 mu) of forestation and the comprehensive control of 1,640,000 mu desertified lands and 2,000 square-meter erosion soil, to build three green ecological screens, namely the mountain ecological circle, the plain ecological circle and the city ecological circle in greenery isolated areas and to take the lead in starting 13 key projects of sand prevention and control within five years.By then, the coverage of woods will reach 50 percent, and afforestation rate 40 percent in Beijing. Based on the target, Beijing will take the lead in launching a batch of major projects of sand-prevention and sand-control and striving to accomplish the job of returning farmland to forest in the mountainside areas in three years. |
