China Students to Compete for Sydney Olympic TripSome 700 students from 50 universities in China will compete, via the Internet, to represent Coca-Cola First Generation University Scholarship students in an international youth exchange program during the Sydney Olympic Games slated for September 15 to October 1.The competition is being jointly organized by the China Youth Development Foundation, China Youth Daily and Coca-Cola China ltd., in conjunction with the Coca-Cola Chian First Generation Scholarship scheme which supports students from remote and underprivileged areas. The 700 students currently studying at 50 universities have been selected after being verified as the first students from their village to attend university. "Each of the 50 universities will be asked to selected one representative from among the group of students receiving the Coca- Cola China First Generation University Scholarship. They will then need to post their information on the Project Hope website (http:// www.hoho.edu.cn)," said Xu Yongguang, the spokesman for the China Youth Development Foundation. Members of the public will then be invited to vote for their choice. The voting results will be combined with those from a preliminary judging panel to shortlist five finalists, who will then go to Beijing for interview a panel for representatives from the Chinese Olympic Committee, the China Youth Development Foundation and Coca-Cola China Ltd. The winner will travel to Sydney to take part in the Olympic Pioneer Program which will include attendance at cultural events, a visit to the Olympic Radio City and various other Olympic activities. |
