Afghanistan to Form Human Rights Commission: Taliban OfficialThe Afghan Taliban's Foreign Minister Wakil Ahmad Mutawakkil said Thursday that the militia plans to set up a commission which would respond to international criticism of human rights violations in the country. In an interview with BBC, the minister said the first thing is that there was no such commission in Afghanistan. Then, there was unfounded criticism of the Taliban which control most of the country. Therefore the commission would serve as a source of information about human rights in Afghanistan, he added. According to Mutawakkil, most of human rights violations reports on Afghanistan are based on the information provided by the opponents of the Taliban regime. The commission would not only offer convincing response to some opposition leaders but would also remain in contact with various organizations and share information with international mass media about human rights, he said. Mutawakkil said there are some un-Islamic things which are called human rights by some people and the commission would highlight such rights in the light of Islamic and Afghan values. |
