China to Help Tanzania Improve Computer EducationChina has agreed to help Tanzania improve education on high-tech and information technology by providing computer equipment and experts to the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT).Under an agreement signed Thursday by Chinese ambassador in Dar es Salaam Wang Yongqiu on behalf of Chinese Ministry of Education and Tanzanian Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education Pius Ng' wandu, the Chinese government will provide gratis a computer laboratory with 50 micro-computers to DIT and send two highly qualified computer experts to the institute to run computer courses. "The assistance for the setting-up of a computer laboratory in the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology by the Chinese side is a small contribution to Tanzania for its development of high-tech," Wang said at the signing ceremony. "It demonstrates once again that the Chinese government and people cherish dearly the friendship between our two great countries." Apart from the computers, Wang said, the contribution also includes subsidiary equipment such as computer desks, chairs, printers and air- conditioners required by the computer laboratory. Speaking at the same function, Ng'wandu expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government and wished for further cooperation. According to the minister, the computer department at DIT is offering training in software applications and computer maintenance, and plans to set up a laboratory of about 100 computers for courses on systems analysis and computer applications. |
