China to Hold Trade Fair for Township Enterprises

A National Economic and Trade Fair for Chinese Township Enterprises will be held in Shangqiu city in central China's Henan Province from September 6 to 9.

The fair, sponsored by the Henan Provincial Government and the Ministry of Agriculture, will play an important role in promoting the exchanges and cooperation between township enterprises in the coastal region and those in the western areas, said Vice Minister of Agriculture Qi Jingfa at a press conference in Beijing Thursday.

He said that the fair will also promote the economic cooperation between domestic township enterprises and overseas firms, as the fair will invite more than 100 overseas businesses to attend.

Vice Governor of Henan Wang Mingyi said that during the fair, more than 10,000 kinds of products will be traded, including garments, foodstuffs, building materials. More than 50 prestigious universities and research institutions will come to the fair and display their latest research achievements.

Since the late 1970s, China's township enterprises have played an increasingly important role in the country's economy. Statistics indicate that since 1997, township enterprises have accounted for nearly a third of the country's gross domestic product, nearly half of the industrial added value and about two fifths of the export revenues.
