Expansion at Shenzhen's Yantian Harbor Completes

The second-phase expansion project of the Yantian deep-water harbor in Shenzhen of south China's Guangdong Province adjacent to Hong Kong is completed after three years of construction.

The project included construction of three new specialized container berths with 50,000 DWT each, and other supporting facilities.

With a combined annual handling capacity of 1.2 million TEUs of containers, the second-phase expansion project cost about 3.9 billion Hong Kong dollars, according to the project developer.

The expansion project has passed preliminary testing.

It is estimated that when the expansion project is put into service, Yantian, now ranking second in China in terms of container handling capacity, will be able to handle more than two million TEUs of containers annually.

Completion of the expansion project at the Yantian harbor will play an active role in promoting Shenzhen's port transportation service, a local port official said, adding that preparations for the 3rd-phase expansion at the harbor are also under way.
