Red Tide Hits South China SeaA red tide was spotted in the sea off Nan'ao County, in Guangdong Province, around 15:40 hours.According to local sources, it is the first red tide ever reported in the South China Sea off northeastern Guangdong this year. Nanhai Branch of the State Oceanic Administration said the red tide first occurred at 10:00 hours yesterday and extended four meters in width around 15:00 hours. The russet belt mainly consists of luminous algae, which produces no toxins. But the outbreak of the red tide is detrimental to the survival of fish and other marine lives. The State Oceanic Administration has sent a special team of workers to Nan'ao to monitor the situation. |
