Chinese Premier Meets Moldova PresidentPremier Zhu Rongji said Thursday that the Chinese government encourages enterprises in Chinaand Moldova to get together to seek cooperation projects of common interest. Zhu said this during his meeting with visiting Moldova President Petru Lucinschi. China is actively promoting bilateral trade and economic relations, and hopes that the Sino-Moldova committee on trade and economic cooperation, founded last August, will do all it can to promote bilateral trade and economic cooperation, Zhu said. He also believed that the current visit by the Moldova president, who is accompanied by a group of entrepreneurs, will push bilateral trade and economic cooperation forward. On bilateral ties, Zhu said that both presidents held a fruitful talk yesterday, after which they signed a joint statement meant to promote development of bilateral ties in the 21st century. Zhu stressed that China attaches importance to developing ties with Moldova and regards Moldova as a close friend and a reliable partner of China. China hopes to develop long-term friendly and cooperative ties with Moldova on the basis of mutual-respect, equality and mutual-benefit, and non-interference in each other's internal affairs, Zhu noted. Lucinschi agreed that bilateral relations have developed smoothly since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992, noting in particular that the exchange of high-level visits has consistently improved bilateral relations. Lucinschi said the joint statement he signed with Chinese President Jiang Zemin has laid the foundation for the future development of bilateral relations. Lucinschi also noted that Moldova-China relations are a good example for how two countries, regardless of their size, can work together on equal footing. Moldova is willing to further strengthen bilateral trade and economic ties with China, so as to deepen the political bond between the two countries, he added. |
