China's West Faces Three Ecological Problems: Experts
Since China decided on the strategy of developing its vast western region, the problem concerning ecological construction in this area has drawn people's attention. According to relevant Chinese experts, the west of China is faced with three big ecological problems: coexistence of water-shortage and waste, soil erosion, and wind erosion and desertification.
They pointed out that approached from the perspective of the whole situation, the three problems are not merely a primary matter concerning whether the region can be successfully exploited and developed. In a certain sense, it has posed a fatal threat to humans' subsistence and development. The worsening ecological environment in west China not only restricts the local economic and social development, but also seriously affects the sustainable development of the entire Chinese economy.
It's reported that a symposium on the study of countermeasures for the ecological environment construction in China's western region is to be held in Beijing this weekend and experts and scholars to attend the symposium will discuss plans for coping with and improving the ecological environment in the western region.
