IIM Official Stresses Bandwidth Construction

Vice Minister of Information Industry Zhang Chunjiang lately pointed out that the development of China's Internet industry hinges on positive innovation and well-knit efforts instead of kicking up a row.

Zhang made the remarks at the ongoing 2000 China International Internet Symposium. He said that the major task for us at present is to make down-to-earth efforts to speed up bandwidth construction

He noted that the main hurtle bottlenecking further development of China's Internet industry is bandwidth insufficiency. China must seek a favorable place in global competition in this field and to this end, a competitive system should be established to lure more investments into the country's telecommunication market and pace of bandwidth construction should be stepped up to reduce charges and promote service quality, the official said.
