Chinese Youngsters Take Oath to be Drug-FreeMore than 2,000 high school students in southeast China's Fujian Province took an oath to stay away from drugs on June 8.They signed their names on a banner, which is going to be signed by other 200,000 youngsters in the city, before the International Day against Drug Abuse, which falls on June 26. The anti-drug educational campaign is to raise youngsters' awareness of the dangers of drug use. Since 1994 the city has organized a variety of anti-drug educational activities, such as summer camps, essay and speech contests, in primary and middle schools. The active anti-drug program has been highly praised by officials from the United Nations. Last year Xiamen was named one of the UN's four experimental centers in China to spread anti-drug awareness among juveniles.
