China Kicks Off 4th Composition Writing Contest

A world Chinese culture exchange program, the 4th Chinese Children Composition Writing Contest, officially started Friday.

Domestic participants will be asked to write a compulsory composition "Me After 20 Years", and overseas children, "Me and Chinese Language". Both groups also have to contribute an article on whatever topics they'd like to write.

Participants should mail their compositions to the organizing committee in Beijing before the deadline of November 30, 2000.

The contest will greatly encourage the Chinese children at home and overseas to study the Chinese language, practice their writing skills and exchange with other children, organizers noted.

Over 10,000 children from more than 10 countries and regions took part in the last contest, they said.

Co-sponsors of the contest include the Chinese Education Association, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council and the Guangming Daily.
