Beijing Party Chief Meets Mayor of Belgrade

Jia Qinglin, a member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee, met Thursday with Mayor Vojislav Mihailovic of Belgrade, capital of Yugoslavia.

Jia, who is also secretary of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, said this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of sister-city relationship between Beijing and Belgrade, and during the past 20 years, their friendship has witnessed smooth growth.

There is broad cooperative potential between the two cities in infrastructure construction, city administration, high technology, and other fields, he said, expressing the hope that substantial cooperation would be increased in the future.

During the meeting, Jia also voiced the hope that Belgrade would make progress in rebuilding the city.

Mihailovic said Beijing's letter of support to Belgrade after US-led NATO's bombing is of great importance to Belgrade. He expressed the hope that further cooperation would be carried out in all fields.

Beijing Mayor Liu Qi also met with Mihailovic today.
