Drought to Continue in North ChinaRainfall is expected in most parts of north China in the next three days, but not enough to alleviate the month-long drought, according to the Central Meteorological Station. From June 7 to 9, 3 to 15 millimeters of rainfall is forecast for the eastern pasts of northwest China, the central and northern parts of north China and most parts of northeast China. Two to ten millimeters of showers are expected between the Yangtze River and the Yellow River in the next two days. Drought in south China will be greatly alleviated as torrential rains and rainstorms hit most parts south of the Yangtze River from June 5 to 7. Heavy rain will continue in the next three days. However, drought in Shanxi, Henan and Hebei provinces, the northern parts of Anhui and Jiangsu provinces and the areas around Beijing and Tianjin municipalities will continue. Since early spring, most parts of north China and some parts of south China have been suffering from a severe drought due to little rainfall and high temperature. By June 2, the acreage of drought-stricken farmland exceeded 11 million hectares. |
