Chongqing Builds Light Railway

Construction of a light railway started Wednesday in Chongqing, in Southwest China.

The 17.41-km-long light railway will have 17 stops and is expected to be officially open by 2004.

The first stage of the project has received a 240-million US dollar loan from the Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund of Japan. China has spent 1.266 billion yuan (US$152 million) for the project.

Shenyang, capital of Northeast China's Liaoning Province, have also started construction of light railways.
