Sino-German Engine Maintenance Set Up

China Southern Airlines (CSA) announced it will cooperate with MTU, a German engine manufacturing giant, in building a service center for engine maintenance.

The contract was signed in Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province. The new joint venture is located inside the bonded zone of Zhuhai City. It will cover an area of 160,000 sq m.

The joint venture will cost US$180 million which will be shared by both investors. The project is expected to be completed and put in service by 2002.

By 2006, the joint venture will gain a capacity of servicing 150 sets of aircraft engines annually.

MTU is a leading engine maker in Germany. It operates three subsidiaries engaged in the maintenance of civilian engines. MTU earned 1.7 billion Euro in business turnovers in 1999. CSA has grown into one of China's leading airlines.
