China to Release 230 Million Fish and Shrimps in South China SeaChina will release 126 million fish, 104 million shrimps and 429 tons of seashells into the South China Sea from June 8 to the end of the month, a senior Chinese fishery official said in Beijing Wednesday.This will be an important step to increase marine fishery resources, said Zhang Hecheng, deputy director of the Fishery Bureau under the Ministry of Agriculture. China's marine fishery resources have been declining for a long period of time mainly due to excess fishing. To reverse the trend, China has taken a series of measures including releasing artificially-bred fish into the sea and imposing summer fishing bans in the East China Sea, the Yellow Sea and South China Sea. Zhang said that China will continue to limit its marine fishing output and release more artificially-bred fish, shrimps and seashells to sustain its fishery development. |
