Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji Urges Scientists to Contribute More to National

Premier Zhu Rongji has urged the scientific establishment to contribute more to the country's economic development and revitalization of the nation.

Addressing the conference of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering here today, Zhu said that academicians and scientists should work hard to scale new heights in the field of science.

They should actively participate in decision-making and consultation on major issues concerning China's economic and social development and work untiringly for the modernization of the country, the premier said.

Speaking about the strategy of revitalizing the nation through science and education, the premier noted that modern science and technology represented by information technology have rapidly developed, having a huge and far-reaching impact on human society.

The new century and new situation makes it more imperative for China to take effective measures to further push forward the implementation of this strategy, the premier said.

In his speech, the premier also talked about China's economic situation, which he said is good on the whole.
