Beijing Forest Resources to a Value of 200 Billion Yuan
According to treatise "The Forestry Value of Beijing" recently published by China Forestry Publishing House, Beijing's forestry resources wrest a total of 231,337 million yuan in value, including 311,988 million yuan of environment forest resources, taking 91.63 percent of the forest total, an output value 13.3 times from forest production.
Beijing Municipality covers an area of 16.8 thousand sq.km, 49.7 percent of which is forestry, 36.26% of the city's whole land area. Presently, a comprehensive shelter-forest system has been erected to initially form an ecospheric ring around the city. Experts' research indicates that land forests take 2,080 million yuan. With an output value of 15,916 million yuan from forest production, the known social returns total 1353 million yuan.
The value of forest environment consists of seven main elements: water conservation, environment purification, species of wildlife and plants, solar energy transformation, environmental protection, tourism and soil preservation.
