Wild Animal Resources Decline In Shanghai
A four-year survey indicated that wild animal resources in Shanghai, China's largest industrial and commercial city, have declined considerably.
The survey was conducted by the State Forestry Administration. Shanghai has 8 species of amphibious animals, 14 varieties of reptiles and 159 kinds of birds.
Quails, crested myna and some other birds are already extinct in Shanghai.
Experts attributed the decline and extinction mainly to the expansion of city and environmental pollution, which have greatly damaged the surrounding habitat for the wild life.
Local people have eaten large numbers of snakes, frogs and birds, posing a threat to the survival of wild animals.
