China Improves Transport of Dangerous Cargoes on Yangtze RiverTransportation license is issued to all the 269 ports along China's longest river, the Yangtze River, for handling the transportation of dangerous cargoes, such as oils and chemicals, as the transportation of such goods is increasing.The amount of 40 million tons of such goods in over 60 varieties are shipped along the river a year, with an average annual rise of 15 percent, transportation officials said. The aim of the license system is to curb the pollution caused usually by transportation accidents, they explained. All the ports have been asked to lay oil enclosures to stop the spreading of possible oil leaks. No major oil contamination has been reported in the past two years, thanks to the improved management. |
