All-China Youth Federation Accorded UN AwardThe All-China Youth Federation (ACYF) on Monday received the annual Human Resources Development (HRD) Award from the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).At a ceremony held at the UN Conference Center, ESCAP Executive Secretary Adrianus Mooy presented the award to Bayin Chaolu, who is the president of the ACYF and on behalf of the ACYF to receive the award. Mooy said at the ceremony that the ACYF was selected as the top winner from 83 individuals and organizations in 24 countries throughout the Asia-Pacific region for its wide range of innovative human resource development activities for young people. He also praised the ACYF for setting "an excellent example of how to empower young people through training and educational programs." In his speech at the ceremony, Bayin Chaolu said, "this award is not only an praise and support for the work done by the ACYF, but also an approval and recognition of the efforts made by millions of the Chinese young people." In the new century, the ACYF will further strengthen the exchanges and cooperations with international youth organizations, he said. Formed in 1949, the ACYF has grown to encompass youth organizations throughout China, and has successfully adapted its programs to reflect the changing nature of youth issues and Chinese Society. This year's award is sponsored by the government of Australia and carries a 30,000 U.S. dollars prize. Micronesia Bound, an organization based in the Federated States of Micronesia, received an runner-up award at the ceremony. |
