Auto Exhibition Opens in Beijing


Auto Exhibition 2000 Opens in Beijing
More than 1,000 auto and parts manufacturers from some 20 countries and regions participated in the Auto China 2000 opened Tuesday.

World famous auto-manufacturers such as Mercedes Benz, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, General Motors, Ford, and Volvo have brought their latest products to the exhibition.

German Volkswagen and its joint ventures in China, Shanghai Volkswagen and the First Auto Volkswagen, boasted as the largest exhibitor, having a 2,000-sqm show area.

A total of more than 300 cars are showed on the exhibition, which was jointly sponsored by the State Administration of the Machinery Industry, the China National Automotive Industry Corp, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and the China Association of Automobile manufacturers.

The exhibition has been held biannually in Beijing since 1990 and has grown into one of the largest special exhibitions held in China.

During the seven-day exposition, other activities, including an international seminar on the global and Chinese auto industry in the 21st century, an auto photograph competition and a series of other activities, will be staged to add cultural charm to the exhibition.
