CPPCC Meeting in Memory of Religious Leader

A group of ethnic and religious members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) gathered Tuesday in memory of Zhao Puchu, an outstanding religious leader who passed away recently.

Ngapoi Ngawang Jigme, a Vice-Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, called on the ethnic and religious circles to learn from the patriotic religious leader and make new contributions to the socialist cause with Chinese characteristics.

As a patriotic religious leader, Zhao had actively promoted Buddhism, led the Buddhist believers to love the country and the religion and made the religion accustomed to the socialist society.

Zhao had also supported the development of Tibetan Buddhism and opposed the various schemes by overseas splittists, Ngapoi Ngawang Jigme said.

Also present at the meeting were Zheng Wantong, Secretary- General of the CPPCC National Committee, and Zhao's wife Chen Bangzhi.
