Polish President Calls for Closer Ties With China
Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski Monday called for further development of Polish-Sino relations by stepping up political contacts and strengthening economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
Kwasniewski made the call during a meeting with Buhe, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), who arrived in Warsaw Monday for a five-day goodwill visit.
He expressed the hope that Poland and China would make greater efforts to push bilateral friendly ties to a new level by enhancing political contacts, increasing economic and trade cooperation and bolstering culture exchanges between them.
Kwasniewski said that he regarded Buhe's visit to Poland as a sign of a fresh development of bilateral ties and that he was looking forward to Chinese leaders' visits to Poland.
The Polish president said he was convinced that "China will become a peaceful, democratic, stable and developed country, and its development will surely make important contributions to global stability, peace and development."
Speaking on the same occasion, Buhe said that China and Poland have witnessed frequent high-level exchanges, as well as increasingly active bilateral cooperation and exchanges in the economic, cultural, scientific and technological fields.
He believed that the two countries, which have a traditional friendship, will see further development in their relations.
On his arrival, Buhe said in a written statement that his current trip is aimed at "further deepening mutual understanding, promoting friendship, increasing common understanding and developing cooperation" between the two countries.
Buhe is scheduled to leave Poland on Friday for the Czech Republic to continue his four-nation European tour, which will also take him to Hungary and Romania.
