Gold Bars From Han Dynasty Unearthed in Shaanxi
A total of 219 gold bars made during the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-220 A.D.) have been discovered in the northern suburban of Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province.
A bulldozer driver unearthed the ingots while working at a construction site. They were located in two separate containers, both five meters underground.
Each of the bars has a diameter ranging from 5.6 cm to 6.5 cm and weighs between 250 and 300 grams.
Archaeologists also found some Chinese surnames such as Huang, Zhang, Ma, Bei and Ji inscribed on the gold bars.
After some research, experts confirmed that the site where the bars were stored is some five km away from the imperial palace of the Han Dynasty.
