PLA Senior Official Meets Australian Guests

Yu Yongbo, a member of China's Central Military Commission and director of the General Political Department of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), met in Beijing Monday with R. B. Treloar, commander of the theater command of Australian armed forces and his party.

Yu said that the Chinese government and armed forces attach great importance to developing friendly cooperation with Australia.

He noted that the relations between the two countries and their armed forces have been developing smoothly in recent years with concerted efforts from both sides.

Treloar said that the armed forces of the two countries have conducted frequent visits during the past few years and that he hopes the two sides will further the relationship.

The Australian guests arrived here Sunday for a five-day official visit to China at the invitation of the PLA Headquarters of the General Staff.
