Conference of CAS and CAE Opens in BeijingMore than 1,000 academicians gathered in Beijing Sunday at the conference of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), focusing on China's scientific and technological development in the 21st century.The two academies will elect the third group of foreign academicians and decide on the winners of Chen Jiageng scientific award and the China Engineering Prize during the conference. Academicians will make in-depth discussions on the frontier issues of scientific research and engineering technology and on the development of west China, and will offer advice for the country's policy-makers during the five-day conference. Symposiums on scientific achievements and development trends will also be held during the conference. The CAS and the CAE, which were founded in 1949 and 1994 respectively, are the highest science and technology consultative institutions and academic thinking tanks. Research findings of the members of the two academies represent the country's top research level. |
