Yunnan Legislates to Protect Ethnic Folk Culture
Yunnan Province recently enacted a local regulation to bring the protection of the traditional folk culture of ethnic groups onto the track of legalized management.
The newly published regulation will protect the folk literature and art, festivals and celebrations, traditional sports and entertainment activities of ethnic groups, local-style dwelling houses, costumes and household utensils reflecting the production and living customs of various minorities, architectures and facilities with ethnic characteristics, manuscripts, ancient books and classics, documents, genealogical trees, steles, couplets of academic and artistic value, oral culture and culture of ethnic groups and their knowledge and technique, craftsmanship and treasures of minorities.
It's explicitly stipulated in the regulation that it is forbidden to deal in precious original material and objects of traditional folk culture, and such materials and objects which have been confirmed to be of historical, cultural, artistic and scientific values are banned to be brought out of the country.
