Urban Population in China Totals 376 Million
The urban population in China's 668 cities totals 376 million by the end of last year, according to an official report.
The report, titled "China Environmental Situation Bulletin 1999", said China's urbanization level increased to 30.9 percent, up half a percentage point over the previous year.
According to the report, the population density in urban areas reached 462 per square kilometers, with planned urban areas totaling 812,800 square kilometers, the report said.
