Beijing Party Chief Meets Japanese Guest

Jia Qinglin, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and secretary of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, met Friday with former Governor Isamu Takada of Japan's Nagasaki Prefecture.

Jia extended a warm welcome to Takada and praised him as an old friend of the Chinese people, who has long been working for the relationship between the two countries.

He expressed the hope that Takada will come to Beijing more often to help promote exchanges between the Chinese capital and Nagasaki in all fields.

Takada said he was deeply impressed by Beijing's dramatic changes, expressing his willingness to continue contributing to the friendship between China and Japan.

Takada served as governor of Nagasaki from 1982 to 1998, and for his long-term efforts in the development of relations between China and Japan, the title of "China-Japan Friendship Envoy" was conferred on him in 1997 by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.
