All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots Issues Open Letter to People in Taiwan

The All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots issued an open letter in Beijing Friday to compatriots in Taiwan.

The letter said that people from all walks of life in Taiwan and Taiwan compatriots on the mainland are keeping a close eye on the Taiwan Straits issue. Since Taiwan has a new leader, everyone is hoping that relations between both sides of the straits will turn around for the better.

However, the letter pointed out that the policy statement that the new leader of Taiwan made and the comments that some new members made in public have made compatriots disappointed and anxious. Taiwan compatriots on the mainland share the same deep worries as the people of Taiwan about the safety of their home and lives.

The letter said that peaceful reunification of the motherland cannot be postponed indefinitely. The Chinese people, including 23 million Taiwan compatriots, will not agree on the separation of Taiwan from the motherland again.

The letter called for compatriots in Taiwan to stand up and stop the activities of a handful of separatists. It also called for Chinese all over the world to urge the new Taiwan authorities to embrace peaceful reunification as soon as possible.
