South Fishing Ban to Save StocksA total of 40,000 fishing boats from South China's Hainan and Guangdong provinces and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region will remain in harbour for two mouths. Authorities in the three regions have all set up organizations to ensure the fishing ban is carried out effectively.But China has not established clear classifications with some of its neighboring countries regarding fishing in the South China Sea. Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture called on further cooperation on the fishing ban. Li Jianhua (Ministry of Agriculture) Said: " For the foreign boats in the South China Sea which are too near our coast, we will ask them to move out of our waters. We want to achieve sustainable development by protecting marine resources." Last year's two-month fishing ban proved a great success. After it was lifted, marine catches in the South China Sea rose 28 percent. |
