DPRK Media Says Kim Jong-Il's Visit to China FruitfulMajor newspapers in Pyongyang Friday described the China visit by Kim Jong-Il, leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), as "fruitful and satisfactory."Reports given prominence in Rodong Sinmun and Minju Choson said Kim's May 29-31 visit to China was historic and would help fortify the friendship between the two neighbors. The visit came ahead of a planned historic June 12-24 summit between Kim and his South Korean counterpart, Kim Dae-Jung, in Pyongyang. The papers said that in a friendly atmosphere, leaders of the two countries briefed each other on the achievements made by their respective nations and parties in socialist construction. They exchanged views in a sincere manner on international issues concerned and further consolidation and development of the traditional DPRK-Sino friendship. The leaders noted that the long-lasting friendship between the DPRK and China was built and fostered by the last generation of leaders of both nations. "Strengthening such relations at the turn of the century when the world situation is complicated and volatile conforms to the aspirations and interests of the two peoples and is conducive to peace in the Asian-Pacific region and the world at large," the reports said. The reports said that the DPRK supported the five points in the proposal put forward by Chinese President Jiang Zemin during their talks on further developing DPRK-Sino friendship and extended appreciation for the brotherly aid China has offered it. The papers also reported Kim's satisfaction at his visit. |
