China's Economic Growth to Pick Up This YearA report from the State Information Center shows that most Chinese economists foresee faster economic growth this year.Eighty percent of the economists surveyed said they expect the gross domestic product to grow by 7.5 to 8 percent this year, according to "China Securities." Most of them believe that the consumer price index will increase by one percent this year, and that there will be faster growth in fixed-asset investment, probably by 9.6 percent on an annual basis. In addition, foreign trade is expected to enjoy steady growth in 2000, with exports surging by 13.5 percent and imports up 15.3 percent on a year-on-year basis. However, about half of the economists are still not sure whether or not this represents the beginning of a new round of economic boom. |
