"Mother River Protection Activity" to Go Online
News from the relevant department shows that people from all walks of life can likely concern themselves with the situation regarding the "Mother River Protection Activity" through Internet within this year.
In order to better conduct information management of the mother river protection project, the national leading group engineering department for the "Mother River Protection Activity" is currently organizing experts to step up development of a "mother river information management system" which is expected to be made known to the whole society within this year. By then, the donators and the general public can be aware of the progress of the project and the direction, use and effect of their donation through Internet.
The activity to "Protect the Mother River", which was launched on January 18, 1999, is a gigantic mass public welfare activity designed to protect and improve the ecological environment. Its major task is to mobilize juveniles and arouse the whole society to engage in vigorous reforestation, control water and soil erosion, control pollution and protect the ecological environment in the valleys of main rivers and lakes which have nurtured the Chinese nation and its people, and to arouse and establish the awareness of the mother river and maintainable development.
The mammoth mass public welfare activity draws its funds mainly from the donation consciously extended by various social circles and the general public.
So far, this activity has received donations worth more than 30 million yuan. It is said that the national leading group has currently approved a total of 13 financially subsidized key items of the National Mother River Protection project, 10 items of which have started construction.
