Ericsson (China) Co. Ltd. signed in Shanghai a contract with Guangxi Mobile Communication Corporation of south China to provide the latter with equipment in upgrading the local GSM digital mobile telecommunications network.
The contract is worth US$86 million. On completion of the expansion project, the Guangxi company will be able to provide 2.2 million subscribers with a wide range of telecommunications services, including mobile and Internet communications.
According to the contract, the needed equipment will be supplied by Ericsson (Nanjing) Mobile Communication Corporation, the first joint venture the Swedish company built in China, in July.
Ericsson has so far set up nine joint ventures and established 23 representative offices in China, employing about 4,000 people.
