China Fully Supports Work of IMF


Chinese Premier Meets New IMF Managing Director
Premier Zhu Rongji told Horst Koehler, the new managing director and chairman of the executive board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Thursday afternoon that China fully supports the work of IMF.

Zhu congratulated Koehler on his new post, and said that China is ready to further strengthen cooperation with IMF.

Koehler, who said he was deeply impressed by the changes in China over the past years, said that his current visit to China and other Asian countries is to solicit opinions from leaders on how to bring into better play the role of IMF.

Zhu and Koehler exchanged views on a number of issues of common interest.

Dai Xianglong, governor of the People's Bank of China, was present on the occasion.

Koehler arrived Thursday and is expected to stay until Saturday.
