Beijing Holds Activities to Mark Children's Day

A host of activities were held in the Chinese capital Beijing on June 1 to mark International Children's Day.

The Chinese Children's Center in the Guanyuan Park became a sea of joy, as local children were joined by state leaders and children from Taiwan for the annual June 1 celebrations.

Poem recitals, singing and dancing, and other performances were staged by the children who were overjoyed to be observing their own festival.

A total of 20 such activities, such as a healthy baby contest, a science laboratory project, a biological garden, and story- telling contests, will be held in the center over the next four days.

Buhe and Peng Peiyun, vice-chairpersons of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, were present to celebrate along with diplomats from many countries.
