Premier Meets Former French President
Premier
Zhu Rongji
met Thursday with visiting former French President Elery Giscard d'Estaing and a delegation of French entrepreneurs, who are attending the Sixth Sino-French Economic Seminar.
Zhu expressed his appreciation and gratitude to d'Estaing for his contribution to Sino-French friendly relations.
Zhu said that Sino-French economic and trade relations have developed smoothly and that he is "optimistic" and "confident" that such relations will continue in the future.
He also voiced his belief that China's imminent entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) will provide more opportunities for French businessmen. He hoped that both sides will enhance cooperation in all fields.
The former French President d'Estaing praised the signing of the European Union-China bilateral agreement on China's WTO accession, saying this will open a new chapter in EU-China economic and trade ties. He also praised China's reforms and its vigorous economy.
