Children Education Developing Fast in China

China has witnessed a fast development in children education. China has seen to it that the basic rights of children are well protected and put under the great concern of the CPC Central Committee, the State Council and people's governments at all levels from top down below, says an official with the Ministry of Education.

Altogether 180,000 kindergartens, 580,000 primary and 644,000 junior middle schools were reported in China by yearend of 1999 and to add to these is a nine-year compulsory education that has been popularized among over 80% of the country's residents. Along with a nine-year compulsory education provided for a student population of 200 million is a student body of 99.1% of school-age children having been enrolled by primary schools and 88.6% of student population by junior middle schools. In addition, there are also 1,520 schools with special campus education provided for 370,000 disabled.

As children education is developed and a nine-year compulsory education popularized there is also a great raise in education quality in China. As things stand now in the country, children have become healthier and are in an all-round development.

China will further expedite and develop children education, strengthen children protection, develop children education for the disabled and promote compulsory education in underdeveloped areas, hoping that all children can grow up healthily under the care of the society, said the official with the Ministry of Education.
