Executive Deputy Chief of PLA General Staff Meets German Guests

Guo Boxiong, executive deputy chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), met Thursday with Director Schneiderhan of the Bureau of Military and Political Policy of the German federal defence forces and his party.

Guo, who is also a member of the Central Military Commission, said that bilateral relations between China and Germany have maintained good development momentum in recent years, adding that the development of relations between the two armed forces is also satisfactory.

He said he believes Schneiderhan's current visit to China will further the relations between the two armed forces.

Guo briefed the guests on China's domestic situation and military building, and reiterated the Chinese government's principled position on the Taiwan issue.

Guo expressed his thanks to the German government for its one- China position, and support for China on the Taiwan issue. Schneiderhan said the German armed forces are willing to work with the Chinese side to further promote relations between the two armed forces.

He noted that China is a frank and trustworthy country, adding that China will play an even bigger role in world affairs in the future.

Schneiderhan briefed the Chinese hosts on Germany's military reforms.
