NPC Vice-Chairperson Calls for Enhanced Relics Protection
Peng Peiyuan, vice-chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), has called for enhanced protection of cultural relics.
During her recent inspection of cultural relics protection in Shanxi province, Peng said that the general public should further raise its awareness of relics protection and departments concerned must strengthen their management capability.
The northern China province of Shanxi boasts over 3,500 cultural relics sites, many of which are of high historical and artistic value.
While speaking highly of the province's efforts in the area of relics protection, Peng said that all localities should further implement the law on cultural relics protection, and deal properly with the relationship between protection and economic development. In the meantime, more efforts should be taken to give a full play to the role of cultural relics in public education and scientific research, Peng said.
