China Beats US at Women Soccer Pacific Cup

China Beats US at Women Soccer Pacific Cup
China downed the United States 1-0 in their Pacific Cup women's soccer clash at Bruce Stadium in Canberra Wednesday night.

The goal came five minutes from the end when Chinese captain Sun Wen placed the ball past US goalkeeper Siri Mullinix.

The penalty came when Sun, the Asian player of the year, was brought down by US substitute Danielle Slaton.

Chinese coach Ma Yuanan kept the victory in perspective.

"The US were without several of their top players," he said.

"But we are not at our peak yet either," he said.

American team boss April Heinrichs said any loss was a big disappointment for the world champion.
