Shanghai to Launch Two Education ReformsTo arouse students' enthusiasm for study, two pilot reforms will be carried out by colleges and universities in Shanghai this fall: Students will be recruited to join classes in different grades while junior college students with a desire to upgrade their study to that of undergraduates are allowed.Typical are related practices going to be introduced on the campuses of Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Tongji University, East China Normal University and three others in Shanghai. They have planned for a student body of 350 to be recruited to join and attend classes of different grades in other universities and classes on campuses of their own by freshmen of 1999-2000 school-year in ordinary colleges and universities in the city this fall. Altogether 16 universities including Tongji University, East China Normal University and Shanghai University of Finance & Economics will embark on the reform of "Junior college students pursue further study as undergraduates", according to which 1,120 such students will be enrolled by universities to that end in Shanghai this year. Shanghai Commission for Discipline Inspection and some other state departments in charge have demanded a further strengthening of leadership and management by related colleges and universities to guarantee full implementation of the reforms to be carried out. |
